The BrewFest will feature over 40 of America's and the World's best breweries - including Loudoun's own Vintage 50 Restaurant and Brew Lounge, a variety of food to complement the craft beers and great local and regional bands to enterain you.

While there's not a very good selection of craft-beer, microbrews and other delicious choices for beer aficionados in the heart of the Dulles South region (i.e. South Riding, Stone Ridge, Chantilly, Arcola and Brambleton), there's a few options to be found, along with some very good regional Loudoun County beer destinations.

Loudoun Vineyards

DC's Wine Country - Visit Loudoun

Why this page?

Simple - we like beer, a lot, and pretty much everyone we know does as well. Though there seems to be 3 primary camps of Loudoun beer consumers:

  • Real Beer Drinkers (RBD's - you know who you are, and who isn't)
  • Beer Appreciators (BA's - can readily drink a Bud as easily as a DogFish, but actually likes the Bud)
  • Beer Drinking Posers (BDP - don't know or care what Real Beer is (though some think Corona is) - every gas station caters to them)

Here, therefore, are sources of beer for Dulles South residents to buy and/or drink, for RBD's, and the occasional BA. (Note we'll be adding more info and links in between some more beers.)

Breweries
  • Old Dominion, Ashburn - Really decent beers, especially Tupper's Hop Pocket, but they're going to soon stop brewing that
  • Sweetwater Tavern(s), Sterling - Good seasonal beers, good food, nice people (also over in Centreville)
  • Vintage 50, Leesburg - haven't been, yet - though sounds fantastic
  • Gordon Biersch, Tysons Corner, Mclean - Excellent seasonal selection, though it's in a Mall

Good Beer in Restaurants (just a starter list, send us more!)
  • Fireworks Pizza, Leesburg
  • Tuscarora Mill, Leesburg
  • Magnolias at the Mill, Purcellville
  • Dogfish Head Alehouse, Falls Church (Seven Corners)
  • Hard Times Chili Restaurant, in Herndon
  • Firkin & Hound, South Riding
Beer Stores
  • Total Beverage, Greenbriar (Rt. 50 near Fairfax County Parkway) - a Beer Mecca, worthly of a monthly stock run
  • All Giants - reasonable selection of more popular microbrews, in emergencies
  • All Blooms - actually a little better than Giant, in selection, some unique titles here and there
  • Wegman's - has a few very unique, expensive titles - but actually the selection isn't much better than Bloom's
  • Harris Teeter - good enough for a typical weekend, once your Total Beverage cache has run out
  • Costco's - sometimes, a decent label by the case, but mostly you'll have to settle for Sam's
Beer Sites That's it for now, time for a Leinenkugel. Send us more info, reviews and pictures; we'll post 'em all.
